Mod Post: Imagine_Ink on Hiatus [24 Mar 2006|04:47pm]

faemous
[ mood | disappointed ]

Hey all, After the last challenge completely flopped (as did almost every one before it), I don't really have the motivation to keep this community running, so I'm putting it on hiatus for now.

If anyone has any interest in helping me run the community, or any suggestions to make it more successful I would really appreciate it.

Thank you to those who have participated in the past, those who supported me in getting this started, and those who joined, even if you didn't participate in any of the challenges. I really appreciate it.

In the meantime, I'd like to invite you all to continue to post anything you've written that you'd like feedback on. So maybe the challenges haven't been so successful, but I'm sure that there are plenty of people here willing to have a look at anything you've written. If you're worried about copyright issues, feel free to post under a friends lock so that only the members of the community can read and comment. I'd love it if there were at least something going on here.

Thanks, guys!

[ mood | cold ]

So...rather than to continue to beat a dead horse, the Alternate Reality challenge is officially canceled. Thank you to tofusquirrel who posted a submission. If you get a chance, please go read it and give him some feedback here: Follow the Light.

Moving forward, a week from today submissions to our Photograph theme are due, and I hope to see some submissions! For more information on the challenge, please refer to this post.

And, as always, please continue making suggestions and comments regarding the way the community is run at this post.

Happy writing!

Mod Post: Extension/Reminder, and a New Challenge! [10 Feb 2006|02:50am]

faemous
[ mood | tired ]

Guh, I totally meant to do this over the weekend but things just caught up with me.

The deadline for our Alternate Reality theme was supposed to be this past Saturday, but seeing as how we only got one entry, and I didn't remind y'all, I'm going to extend the challenge until Friday, February 17, 2006 at midnight, EST. The rules and such can be found here, and if you have any questions or suggestions, please post them here.

Also, I'd like to announce a new oneshot challenge, Photograph. Find a photo, either something random from online, or a picture you personally took, of a person or people, and write a oneshot in 500 words or more describing in detail the sensory details behind the picture. Go beyond what we can see in the picture and describe how the person or people are feeling, what they see, hear, feel, smell, etc. This challenge will be due on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at midnight, EST, and please post the photograph or a link to it in your submission. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

And just as a question...is there a reason that there's been such a low turnout for challenges? Is everyone just busy all at once or just not interested in the challenges? Please, if you have any ideas for challenges, or suggestions to help the community run more smoothly, let me know here. I know that I personally love the idea of a community like this, but I had hoped that it would be a little more lively than it's been.

Anywhos, I hope everyone has a wonderful week, and a wonderful Valentine's day, and that we'll see some entries into the challenges soon!

Mod Post: Happy New Year, and Challenge #2! [07 Jan 2006|01:58am]

faemous
[ mood | bouncy ]

Happy New Year, everybody! I'm excited to get a fresh new start this year!

First of all, as I discussed in my last mod post, we've made a few slight changes to the rules. Please read over the UserInfo, especially if you're new here. Nothing too complicated, just a little tweaking.

And as for our next challenge, let's try with Alternate Reality one more time. The premise here is that you take a moment in history, and change one detail. Then, explore how that one little change could have changed history! For example, what if Hitler had gotten into art school? Would he have been a benevolent leader, not gone into politics at all and just been an artist, or been the only thing worse than Hitler: A slightly more pretentious Hitler, who can only be defeated by poetry major Churchill? Use your imagination!

This challenge will be due on Saturday, February 4, 2006 at midnight, EST, but you may post your entry at any time before then. Word count should be at least 750 words, but feel free to write anything over that. On the fourth we'll start voting, and the following week we will assign a winner! If there are any questions or comments on the challenge or any of the changes to the community, please feel free to ask!

As always, keep submitting your suggestions, both for challenge themes, and for ideas to improve the community. Have a great January, everybody, and I hope to see some entries soon!

Mod Post: Let's get a new start in 2006! [05 Dec 2005|01:26pm]

faemous
[ mood | tired ]

So, seeing as we didn't get any entries for our second challenge, Alternate Reality, how about we try to just start over for this new year? Hopefully once the holidays are over people will be able to get with the participation. ^_^

In my last mod post, I asked if people would rather us stop having challenges, and just let the community work as a forum for constructive criticism, and I received a lot of really helpful comments. As it is now, the community will continue as it is, with monthly writing challenges that we'll vote on. As far as concrit goes, when you submit a story, now you'll add to your header what level of concrit you're looking for, whether it be just comments on flow and structure, or an all-out nit-picking analysis of grammar, style, etc. The reason I created this community (and the reason many of you joined) was that we're all looking for a place to post our writing, and get honest opinions of our work so we can improve.

Also, along with entries for our challenges, I'd like to invite anyone and everyone to post anything at all that they'd like to receive concrit for, or at least just get a second opinion. Anything including fanfiction is welcome, and make sure to specify the level of concrit you'd like to recieve. Also feel free to post any questions regarding writing you have, something you've learned that might be helpful to others, etc.

And so now that all that is out of the way, I'll be posting the theme for our January challenge probably this Friday. First I wanted to know if you all wanted to try again with the Alternate Reality theme, or if you think we should just start over with something new. I want you guys to be able to write about something that interests you, not just about something I think is cool.

As always, keep submitting your suggestions, and have a happy holiday season!

Mod Post: Reminder for Challenge #2 and Questions [11 Nov 2005|02:00pm]

faemous
Just a reminder, and I have a question for you all...we've hot a little over a week before challenge #2 is due! I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!

The theme for our second month-long challenge is Alternate Reality.

What I'm intending for this challenge is that you take an event or time period in history, such as the reign of Julius Caesar, and change one small detail, exploring how that one small detail could have changed the course of history. For example, if Brutus had not stabbed Caesar, how would that have changed Roman Society? Things like that. Feel free to explore any time period from biblical to the present, any culture, and you can have the change be big or small. Be creative.

This challenge is due on Saturday, November 19, 2005 at midnight EST. Feel free to post entries any time before then. Word count should be at least 1,000 words, but I'm not going to be strict about it. Anything over 1,000 words is more than welcome. Go crazy. If you have any questions, concerns, etc, please let me know.

And...IMPORTANT QUESTION!!!!

While our first challenge was successful, the second and third challenges (Home and PostSecret) pretty much failed to take off. I understand that people are busy, but does anyone have any suggestions of what they would like to see from this community in terms of challenges, or structure or anything like that? Maybe you'd like to be able to post other things that you've written, for the opinion of the group? This is my first time modding a community, so I could use any suggestions that you guys might have.

Also, a few people have mentioned to me that they'd prefer it if we didn't have awards for challenges, so that each challenge would simply be for the constructive criticism and opinions of others rather than for a prize. I'd tend to agree, since that is pretty much what I was imagining when I created the community, but I decided to make the challenges competitive to attract members. That didn't work, but anyway, what do you guys think? Would you prefer it if this community was concrit only?

Anyways, continue making suggestions, and I hope to see some entries for this next challenge!

Mod Post: Month #2 and Oneshot #2 themes! [18 Oct 2005|03:06pm]

faemous
[ mood | lethargic ]

Hey everyone! Sorry this is coming out so late! I was so glad to see so many entries for the first month's challenge, and I hope that everyone is up to another challenge this month!

The theme for our second month-long challenge will be Alternate Reality.

This challenge will be due on Saturday, November 19, 2005 at midnight EST. Feel free to post entries any time before then. Word count should be at least 1,000 words, but I'm not going to be strict about it. Anything over 1,000 words is more than welcome. Go crazy. If you have any questions, concerns, etc, please let me know.

Also, I'd like to take this opportunity to announce the theme for our second oneshot challenge.

Our second oneshot challenge theme is PostSecret.

This theme needs a tad bit of explanation. PostSecret is an art project where people basically send in anonymous postcards with their deepest darkest secrets on them. I want you to take any one of these postcards and write a story about what's written on it. There are several places online to find them, the main site is http://postsecret.blogspot.com and then there are more at http://www.defunktion.net/exhibitions/postsecret/gallery/index.html

Entries should be over 300 words, but anything more than that is perfectly awesome. These oneshots will be due Saturday, November 5, 2005 at midnight EST. Please include a link to the postcard you used in your entry. If any of this is confusing or you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

And, as always, continue to make suggestions!!! Happy writing!

faemous
[ mood | chipper ]

Also, while we're here, here's a reminder for our first bi-weekly oneshot challenge. Word count for this is open. The theme for our first oneshot challenge is:

Home

The point of this particular challenge is to pay attention to detail. Tell the story of a character coming home after a long time away, or creating a new home, or leaving home, loving home, hating home, anything you like. Just make sure that you pay special attention to detail. Explore a character's memories and include as much detail as you can.

The deadline for this challenge will be Saturday, October 15, 2005 at midnight EST.

If there are any questions, or anything that doesn't make sense and needs further clarification, as always, please don't hesitate to ask!

And, of course, as always, continue to make suggestions! Thanks! I'll be posting the theme for the next month-long challenge later this week!

Don't forget to vote for the entries from out myth challenge!
